An epic night of live music, love and GETTIN' LOUD for MENTAL HEALTH...Not only marking the launch of schtoom, but a night of fundraising for an inspiring BasicNeeds project that will provide psychological support to post-conflict kids in Sri Lanka.

THANK YOU to everyone that came and got LOUD. schtoom loves you. Oh, and a big BIG thank you to the wonderful acts that performed on the night and our fab DJs who kept us all on our feet until the early hours!

We raised just over £1,000 on the night and along with our online donations we are a little closer to our ambitious target for this campaign.

Most of all, we hope this event and the campaign has got you thinking about mental health in a different way.

Check out our issues page to learn more about the campaign.

Do it now and GET LOUD.

Be sure to check out our facebook page to see the fab event pics and most of all, the fabulous people that attended. And, if you weren't able to make it (shocking) then feel free to redeem yourself here.

Kids participating in group therapy session

Who are BasicNeeds? They work in remote rural countryside and urban slums, in Africa and Asia, to end the suffering of mentally ill people, helping them to live and work in their communities, supporting thousands of people otherwise left to struggle without access to treatment and faced with the effects of stigma surrounding their disease. They use a unique model to help people with both their illness and the poverty they are dealing with.

A post-tsunami project run by BasicNeeds saw the use of art therapy to help affected kids express their emotions and deal with their grief. The aim of the camp was to help them solve problems themselves and regain some control in their lives. The kids were seriously concerned about their lack of school uniform. BasicNeeds provided it for them – such a small concern (and for such small people!), but it helped them return to some sense of normality after a time of unbelievable trauma.

Something we all need, young and old, when things get a little rough.

We need your help to raise £30,000 for an inspiring project that will provide psychological support to post-conflict kids in Sri Lanka.

A consultation session to identify their needs
What you need to know Not surprisingly, the experiences of violence and displacement have caused huge psychological trauma in children living in conflict affected areas. Services to tackle mental health like psychosocial disorders, depression, substance abuse or even suicide are seriously lacking. On top of all that, parents, teachers and guardians, along with the children themselves, simply don’t have the knowledge or awareness to understand and treat mental illness, whilst the massive stigma associated with mental illness will stop most families from seeking help at all.

GET LOUD. We urgently need your help to help us reach this ambitious target.
Your money will support the development of mental health services for children and young people and help build local resource to provide children with long-term care in the conflict affected areas of Batticaloa and Vavuniya (Eastern and Northern provinces of Sri Lanka).

By supporting this project you will help 1,200 vulnerable children and their families be better equipped to overcome their traumatic experiences, regain a sense of normal community life and make sure they go to school and get back to being children.
